Terms of Service
Terms and conditions for using GoHopping car rental comparison services.
Last updated: March 2026
1. Overview
Go Hopping ("we," "us," or "our") operates an online comparison platform that connects travelers with car rental suppliers in Iceland. By accessing or using our website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.
We act as a booking intermediary. The rental agreement itself is between you and the vehicle supplier. We facilitate the search, comparison, and booking process on their behalf.
2. Eligibility
To rent a vehicle through our platform, you must be at least 20 years of age (some suppliers require 23+ for specific vehicle categories), hold a valid driving licence that has been active for at least one year, and possess a valid credit card in the driver's name.
3. Booking & Payment
All prices displayed on our platform include mandatory insurance (CDW, TPL), taxes, and applicable airport fees unless otherwise stated. Prices are shown in the selected currency and may fluctuate based on exchange rates at the time of final payment.
A booking confirmation will be sent to the email address provided. It is your responsibility to ensure the booking details are accurate at the time of confirmation.
4. Insurance & Liability
All rentals include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Third Party Liability (TPL) insurance as standard. Optional insurance upgrades such as gravel protection, sand and ash protection, and zero-excess coverage may be purchased during the booking process.
Insurance does not cover damage caused by negligence, intoxication, driving on unauthorized roads, or deliberate misuse. The renter is responsible for any damage not covered by the selected insurance package.
5. Cancellation & Refunds
Free cancellation is available up to 48 hours before the scheduled pickup time. Cancellations made within 48 hours of pickup may incur a cancellation fee of up to 100% of the rental cost, depending on the supplier's policy.
Refunds for eligible cancellations are processed within 5–10 business days to the original payment method.
6. Vehicle Use & Restrictions
Rental vehicles must only be driven on roads appropriate for the vehicle type. Standard (2WD) vehicles are not permitted on F-roads or any unpaved mountain tracks. Only 4x4 vehicles designated as highland-capable may be driven on F-roads.
Off-road driving is illegal in Iceland and will void all insurance coverage. River crossings are undertaken at the driver's own risk.
7. Fuel Policy
Vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank, unless a prepaid fuel option was selected at the time of booking. Failure to return the vehicle with a full tank will result in a refuelling charge at the supplier's rates.
8. Damage & Deposits
A security deposit may be held on the driver's credit card at pickup. The amount varies by supplier and vehicle type. The deposit is released upon return of the vehicle in satisfactory condition.
Any damage to the vehicle must be reported immediately. The renter is liable for the self-risk amount applicable to their insurance package.
9. Limitation of Liability
Go Hopping acts as an intermediary and is not liable for the condition of vehicles, supplier conduct, or incidents during the rental period. Our liability is limited to the booking facilitation service we provide.
10. Governing Law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Iceland. Any disputes arising from the use of our services shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Reykjavík, Iceland.
